Many people forget to check these basic things before making blog posts or writing an article and then wonder why they they suck in Google SERP. So here is a check list:

1. Is the keyword related to the entire websites content?
2. Is the keyword you are aiming at in the title?
3. Have you typed the keyword in the article body in different forms? Like if you type LA Real Estate in your article a 100 times, Google will find out, type it in different ways like real estate in LA etc..
4. Is your article of any worth to human users?
5. Is your article getting links from other pages in your blog/website?
6. Have you used the bold tag in your article?
7. Is the keyword density good? at about 4 – 5 %, there are softwares to check this.
8. Is your article long enough?

If the answer is yes to all of these questions then you have to build more links but if its a keyword with low competition, you will get top SERP.

Honestly, I don’t have any big secret. The one thing I can say is if you don’t have traffic, you won’t make money, but that’s pretty obvious.

In my limited experience, I’ve found it takes 3-4 months minimum to know if the site you created will, one, rank well for your keywords, and, two, start to generate any income thats more than a buck a day. The $30 bucks a day I’m making now is from about 5 sites / pages. My game site is making about $20 of that a day, and then I have a few other sites that are mainly affiliate product sites that are making a couple bucks each from Adsense, but that’s not their main purpose. I created the game site back in November and in January I was about ready to dump it because I couldn’t get any traffic. All of a sudden about Feb 1, I went from 15 unique visitors a day to 150. And within a week I jumped up to 500. I checked Google and sure enough, I had 5 of my targeted keyword phrases in the top 5..and that’s where 85% of my traffic is generated. This shows HOW IMPORTANT KEYWORD RESEARCH IS…and on page keyword optimization.

Obviously at $30 a day, I’m no Adsense genius, but this is what I’ve been doing so far.

I create simple sites & pages. I’ve done crazy, elaborate sites before and they just distract people. Basic navigation structure and a good color scheme can go a long way. Make it look professional, but not complicated. Simplicity is the key and if you’re making a page just for Adsense revenue, don’t give too much information. Write a few paragraphs of good content, but don’t give all the information away…make them want to click on an ad to get more info. These simple pages make an average of a buck a day, and they took no time to make.

Don’t be afraid to create single page sites on a sub directory of your current sites. As you can see in the site I listed above, I just created a sub folder (name it with your keywords) and then created a page within that folder (use the same keywords to name the page). I like to create a cool custom header and use images where appropriate, along with some good, keyword rich content. Put your ads in there and you’re ready to go. You can make lots of these pages quickly. If you plan on submitting them to directories, you’ll need to find the directories that allow deep links, since that’s what these pages will be.

Get links wherever you can. I still like directory submission as the backbone of link building. Doing it yourself can be tedious, especially if you’re trying to build links for a lot of sites, so spend a few bucks and hire someone to do the manual submissions for you. You can find plenty of people here on DP who will do 500+ submissions for $20 bucks. It’s worth the time you save to go this route.

As for Adsense itself, I stick with the Square and Wide Skyscraper when I can, with a blended background / borders, and link colors that match the site design. This seems to be the method that works best for most.

I’m no SEO expert, but I can write decent content, and I just make sure it’s coherent, relevant, and has my keywords I’m targeting for that page. I use H1, H2 tags like everyone should, and make sure that my page Title always has my keyword phrase. I don’t worry about Meta tags much, but I put my keywords in and make sure my description has the keywords too. It can’t hurt.

I do all the social bookmarking stuff, but I don’t know how much I really get from it, other than a few links. I use Stumbleupon, Clipmarks, and all the big SB sites. They can’t hurt, so keep submitting.

Find blogs with content relevant to your site and make some quality comments on there. Most blog comments will let you put in your name, url and email address. In the name section, use your targeted keywords, or a variation of them. Then put your website in the URL area. When your comment is posted, the name will be your anchor text keywords and you’ve got a good quality targeted backlink. Don’t abuse the commenting tactic, and spread it around over as many blogs as you can.

I just started getting into article submissions, and it really is a good way to get backlinks that you create within the context of relevant content. EzineArticles.com is one of the best, but if you search here on DP, there are lots of people who have free article directories that you can submit your articles to.

Once again, traffic is the only way you’ll see an increase in your Adsense revenue. It’s just a numbers game. The more sites you have and the more people you have visit each site, the more clicks you’ll get. It’s a simple equation. So go do some niche and keyword research, make some quality pages. Put your nose to the grindstone and start building links. In a few months, you’ll reap the rewards. You can do this over and over again until you have your own little Adsense network. None of what I said here is a revelation to most of you, but it’s how I’ve been doing things, and it seems to be working a bit. Good luck.

What is a Search Engine?
A sophisticated script used to help organize the world’s information. A tool used to find information.

How do Search Engines Work?
They look at page layout and markup as well as linkage data to determine the relative importance and meaning of a document. Search is still in its infancy. The primary relevancy driver for most competitive keywords is link text.

What is an SEO?
People who work on their own site or clients sites to boost their rankings in search engines.

How do SEOs Improve Site Rankings?
Making dynamic pages spiderable by removing session IDs (and other problems).
Linking to all pages on a site via text links (or image links) which search engine spiders can follow.
Using specific keyword rich page titles, headers, subheaders, internal linking, and page copy.
Building linking campaigns. Most links should use variations of the primarily keyword phrases in the link text.

What is the Most Effective SEO Techniques?
You should ensure that:

your pages are indexed;
your pages are well structured (with headers and subheaders etc.);
you use descriptive page titles and other page text;
and that you build many keyword rich inbound links.
Link building is usually the hardest and most powerful part of effective broad based SEO.

Why Search Engines like to use the Ethics Tag?
Pay per click advertising makes search engines billions of dollars of revenue each year. If you are spending money to manipulate their search results that means:

the search result quality may lower;
and (more importantly) someone other than the search engine is getting that money.

Is Search Engine Optimization Ethical?
Search engine optimization is just a means to help distribute your message. Nothing more, nothing less. Calling search engine optimization unethical is similar to calling creating a website or printing a newspaper unethical.

SEO can be used to push unethical ideas (racism, war, ignorance, sweat shop labor for companies like Nike, etc.). Just as frequently SEO can be used to push ethical ideas (equality, peace, education, safe and honest working conditions, etc.).

SEO itself should not normally be tied to any ethics guideline B/S. One can use SEO to push whatever ideas they like though.

Why do Search Engine Optimization Experts Use the Ethical Marketing Angle?
The SEO industry is often lacking in credibility. Its easier to use that as a branding angle than it is to be original and come up with your own.

Is Spamming Ethical?
Unsolicited email messages are spam because they shift the marketing time and cost from the marketer to the person opening their email. Because it steals your time (a portion of your life you will never reclaim) spam email is exceptionally bogus.

Can You Spam a Search Engine?
A search engine is not a person. A search engine is a tool. When their algorithm is messed up they push the blame on some “deviant” webmasters. The real solution of course is to make a better algorithm.

Webmasters who provide the content to fill the search results do not necessarily profit adequately for providing the content which allows search engines to deliver a ton of ads. Some of these same webmasters sell text links to other high margin or profitable sites. This is of course arbitrarily wrong because search engines want to be the middle man and want to profit from as many internet ad dollars as possible.

The Facts about SEO
Being an honest business person is a good thing. Hinging your marketing on ethics is a blatant display of desperation.
The goal of the SEO is to get the clients site to rank better for relevant search phrases to spread messages or create sales.
No matter what the SEO, search engines, or clients say: the SEO should put the client ahead of the search engines.
Certain methods are more risky than others and most sites do not need to be promoted via exceptionally risky methods.
Some SEOs are too aggressive, many other SEOs take money and do little work for their pay. You should research before spending money on SEO.
The ethical tag is a marketing idea used by:
people who are new to SEO and rather ignorant; or
unoriginal marketers who are severely lacking in creativity.
Since a search engine is a tool its not something you can spam.

I recently came across a method on accident that a lot of webmasters are doing to create one-way backlinks. I wanted to share this in the DP Search Engine Optimization section since it’s directly related to backlinks SEO value.

When you exchange links with someone you always do the obvious, you check for the nofollow attribute, robots meta tag and iframe injecting. Those methods are used to “block” or “not give value” to outbound links on the web page, which would make your link to them a one-way link and much more valuable.

I’ve started to see lately a lot of webmasters using the robots.txt file to block link pages when doing link exchanges, yes a web page can have a Pagerank value if it’s only blocked by robots.txt, it won’t crawl or index the web page, but the inbound link value is still passed (I noticed this on my own web site, see bottom for example.).

So, another method to check when doing link exchanges is to verify the page(s) your link is appearing on isn’t blocked via robots.txt, or when you check your link exchanges to make sure they are still valid. I have a feeling most of you will run out and check this and find atleast one webmaster pulling this manipulative method off.

Example of Pagerank passed to Blocked Documents

http://www.domain.com/ask.html

The above URL shows a PR0 in the Google toolbar, what you should notice is it’s not N\A but PR0, meaning it is recieving link juice from internal\external links. This web page is blocked via my robots.txt file.

We can check the robots.txt
