A Vasectomy is a surgical procedure in which the Vas Deferens, tubes that carry sperm, are cut in order to interrupt the travel of sperm thereby causing male sterilization. This procedure is intended to be permanent and approximately 600,000 men undergo a vasectomy yearly in the U.S. as a method of birth control.

Every year around 50,000 men in this country will have a vasectomy reversal in hopes of once again being able to father a child. The most common reason for this decision is remarriage and the desire of the new couple to have children and a family of their own.

Vasectomy Reversal has become significantly more common and more successful in the past decade due mostly to advances in microscopic surgery. During the procedure of Vasectomy Reversal the cut ends of the Vas Deferens( a tube with an inner channel measuring about 1/3 of a millimeter)must be properly aligned and stitched back together in order to allow sperm to once again travel through it. The success rate of Vasectomy Reversal varies from roughly 71%-97% and depends on the skill of the surgeon performing the surgery, the condition of the Vas Deferens, and the amount of time that has passed since the original Vasectomy. The more time that has passed, the lower the success rate.

Another important statistic to consider when analyzing success rates of Vasectomy Reversal surgery is the pregnancy success rates of those men who have had the procedure. The chance of pregnancy post Vasectomy Reversal ranges from 30%-76% with time since vasectomy again being a prime determining factor.

Cost of Vasectomy Reversal ranges from $5,000-$13,000 and is not usually covered by health insurance. Many couples every year, hopeful about their chances at pregnancy, pay the cost of the surgery out of their pockets. Payment plans are often available.

Since success of Vasectomy Reversal is highly dependant on the skill of the surgeon, it is important for couples to research those available in their area and find one they have confidence in with an impressive success rate.

Laser hair removal is a gentle way to permanently remove unwanted hair. The procedure works by sending low power laser pulses to the hair follicles. These pulses provide just enough power to destroy the root but not harm surrounding areas of skin. This procedure is safe enough to be used anywhere on the body including the face when done by a qualified professional.

Some of the factors to consider when deciding whether laser hair removal is right for you are:

Skin color-for best results hair should be darker than the surrounding skin.

Very dark skin may absorb to much of the lasers energy so the treatment may not work.

The procedure works better when skin is not tanned and tanning should be avoided immediately after the procedure
side effects which include minor skin irritations and very rarely scarring

Cost- depends on the amount of removal desired

Many providers of Laser Hair Removal procedures offer free consultations which can provide you with any additional information you may need.

The American Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a set of rules to be followed by health plans, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers. HIPAA took effect on April 14, 2003. In the health care and medical professions, the great challenge that HIPAA has created is the assurance that all patient account handling, billing, and medical records are HIPAA compliant.

Some provisions of HIPAA involve patient / hospital interaction. For example, patients must be able access their record and correct errors and must be informed of how their personal information will be used. Other provisions involve confidentiality of patient information and documentation of privacy procedures. It is these provisions that have led to regulation-specific software updates, specialist consulting, and in some cases complete overhauls of medical billing and records systems. If your organization is struggling in your efforts to comply with HIPAA consult the companies on this page who are some of the most reputable in the industry.

Electronic Medical Record Systems are the future of Medical Record keeping designed to help small and large medical practices cut costs and increase revenues, improve quality of care and reduce risk. The Electronic Medical Record replaces the traditional paper chart and integrates multiple other aspects of patient care including:

appointment scheduling

workflow management

patient registry

computerized charting

diagnostic coding optimization

generation of electronic Superbill and eligibility verification

entry of lab orders and lab results

management of images that can be scanned in ie: radiological studies

management of patient referrals

document generation

template generation and editing

clinical decision support

follow-up and recall tracking

generation of patient education materials related to specific visits and diagnoses

Comprehensive systems may also have voice recognition capabilities for dictation directly into the electronic record.

Most Electronic Medical Record systems incorporate a medications component that tracks each patients current

prescriptions, refills and can generate prescriptions on command after checking the database for potential drug-drug interactions.

Electronic Medical Record(EMR) increases productivity by streamlining workflow and maximizing billing while at the same time improving quality of care. Providers can see more patients without decreasing face-to-face encounter time. By improving documentation EMR also reduce liability risk and the security of data is increased compared to that in most paper records.

There are many companies that offer Electronic Medical Record systems and software. Look for a company that will provide extensive technical support during the initial integration of the EMR into your practice and will continue to work closely with you to tailor the system to your needs. The considerable cost of these systems will be recovered with the improved efficiency and the growth of your practice.

Another factor to consider is whether or not the facility will accept insurance, not all do. Check with your insurance company to learn their policy concerning Drug Rehab costs. Your insurance company may also provide a list of facilities that they will pay for.
Drug Rehab is a difficult and lifelong challenge, the right Rehabilitation facility and treatment program can certainly help determine whether you are able to meet that challenge with success.

Cord Blood is the blood that remains in the umbilical cord after birth. It is special because it is rich in a type of cells called Stem Cells. Stem Cells are special because unlike many other types of cells in our bodies that have a predetermined purpose when they are made, stem cells do not. Stem Cells can be used by the body to make many different types of cells and to stimulate the growth of needed cell populations. For this reason Stem Cell has become a very important area of study in biomedical research. Stem Cells are now used to fight over 70 different diseases from Alzheimer’s Disease to several different cancers in both children and adults.

Cord Blood Banking is the process of collecting and storing Cord Blood and its precious Stem Cells for potential use in the future to treat illnesses or diseases of the child born or any family members. The collection is usually performed just after delivery by the delivering physician or midwife and involves drawing blood from the portion of the cord attached to the placenta once the cord has been clamped and cut. There is no risk or pain to mother or baby.

The decision about whether or not to collect and bank your child’s blood may be based on your family medical history. For example, if you already have another child with a condition potentially treated with Cord Blood, most unbiased medical professionals would advise you to consider Cord Blood Banking. Likewise if you have a personal or family history of a genetic disease potentially treated with Cord Blood it may be advisable to strongly consider Cord Blood Banking.

In the absence of the above circumstances, the decision to Cord Blood Bank is more of a personal. The cost may be weighed against the likelihood of potentially needing the Cord Blood at some point in the future. Private Cord Blood Banks market their services to parents as an ‘insurance policy’ against potential future illness. The initial cost for collection and processing of Cord Blood ranges from approximately $900 to $1800. Additionally there is a yearly or monthly storage fee of approximately $500/year. There are many private cord blood banks to choose from. Some are licensed while others are unlicensed.

The physical damage to brain tissue or structure that occurs before, during, or after birth that is verified by EEG, MRI, CAT, or a similar examination, rather than by observation of performance. When caused by an accident, the damage may be called Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

In the United States traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death for persons under age 45. TBI occurs every 15 seconds. Approximately 5 million Americans currently suffer some form of TBI disability. The leading causes of TBI are motor vehicle accidents, falls, and sports injuries. These severe injuries may require long term payments to cover the cost of treatment and to make up for lost income. The science behind brain injuries is constantly changing and highly technical. The cases often require the testimony of medical experts and psychological testing. Legal compensation often provides an effective way to ensure access to the best possible medical care and treatment.

If you or someone you love have a severe injury from a car accident, you may be able to qualify for insurance compensation. Certain factors may depend on how the accident occurred and the laws in your state. An experienced attorney familiar with laws concerning brain injury may be able to get you a fair settlement without you ever having to go to court.

Birth Control Pills. There are two basic types of Birth Control Pills. Those that contain both estrogen and progesterone are the most prescribed Pills and are also referred to as Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills(COCPs). Within the COCPs are several different estrogen and progesterone combinations all with essentially the same efficacy(~99% with perfect use) and the same reported risk, benefit and side effect profiles. Different women may respond differently to individual pills and finding the one that fits the best with an individual is mostly a process of educated trial and error. The other type of Pill is one that contains no estrogen. These pills are also known as Progesterone Only Pills(POPs) or “The Mini-Pill. POPs are most often used in situations where contraception is desired but estrogen is contraindicated. Examples of such situations include breastfeeding mothers because estrogen can reduce breast milk production, women with a history of blood clots in their lungs or legs because estrogen containing Birth Control Methods increase their risk of recurrence of those blood clots, women who have a history of classic migraine for whom estrogen containing pills are contraindicated and women who simply experience unwanted side effects with COCPs such as persist ant headaches or persistent nausea. POPs are not quite as effective as COCPs and must be taken consistently at the same time everyday. For these reasons many women’s healthcare providers reserve them for women who cannot use other methods.

There are numerous non-contraceptive benefits to COCPs. Among them are improved complexion, predictable menstrual cyles, lighter periods, decreased menstual cramping, decreased risks of some cancers and absence of PMS.
